At the midpoint of the upward swing at the ball, the elbow has largely straightened, but the wrist is still loosely holding the racquet at roughly a 90-degree angle to the forearm. This will allow the wrist to whip upward and forward as the last link in the kinetic chain that generates racquet-head speed.
