In tennis, what goes down comes up -- on follow-throughs, at least. Some observers of backspin strokes mistakenly see the upward finish of the stroke as an essential element in giving lift to the ball. By the time the upward motion of the body and racquet begin, the ball is long gone, so it's only the tilt in the racquet face that gives lift to the ball.
