High volleys should almost always be hit fairly hard, and if the ball is coming toward you without a lot of pace, you will generate most of the power yourself. To get power, pull the racquet back so that your right hand is roughly as far back as your head. Keep your left hand on the throat to help set the backswing in a predictable position.

Take a long step forward with your right foot so that your weight will be going forward as you hit you ball. This enhances the power on your volley and encourages you to meet the ball well in front where you can see it best.
