Generally, the faster the approaching ball is moving, the more compact your backswing should be. Here, the moderate ball speed allows a longer backswing. The left hand remains on the racquet throat until the forward swing begins. A long step forward helps to lower the whole body, get the body weight moving forward, and move the point of contact farther forward.
