Should I try to teach my kid myself?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Should I try to teach my kid myself?
Answer: Some kids are less ready to listen to a parent than a teaching pro, and a good teaching pro knows both tennis technique and, importantly, how best to help a student learn it. That said, there can be much benefit in parents and kids spending more time together, and some parents do a great job teaching their kids. Unless the parent is a highly accomplished, well-informed player, thoroughly studying a few top-notch books on tennis should be a requirement before trying to teach. A student who has grooved improper strokes can have more trouble developing sound strokes than one who has never played.
