Where should I be to return serve?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Where should I be to return serve?
Answer: Depth:Take a position as far forward as you can while still having time to prepare your stroke. Playing farther forward allows you to return the ball earlier and more aggressively, and it cuts off your opponent's angles earlier.

Left/Right:Draw an imaginary line from the server through the midpoint of the service box (where its diagonals cross) and get on that line. You might want to shift slightly left or right of that line to adjust for your opponent's spin tendencies or for your preference to hit a forehand or backhand.
