Point of Contact

Point of ContactElsa / Getty Images
Here, Gasquet demonstrates a nice point of contact. He's meeting the ball just above the centerline on his stringbed, the long axis of his racquet is horizontal, and the ball is well in front of his front hip. His hips face the sideline, his shoulders have turned a little less than halfway toward the net, and his eyes are locked onto the point of contact. Ideally, his final step before contact would have been more forward, but it looks like he didn't have quite enough time to finish his lateral run to the ball before it was time to swing.
