Serena Williams Photo #9: Semi-Open, Semi-Western Forehand

Photo of Serena Williams - Semi-Open, Semi-Western ForehandAlex Livesey / Getty Images
In this photo, Serena provides a great example of preparing to hit a semi-open, Semi-Western forehand. Having her wrist laid back slightly will enhance the speed of her swing. The downward tilt in her string bed on the backswing will result in a vertical string bed at the point of contact. Serena's weight is pushing off her back leg. Her body is coiled in comparison to the alignment of her feet, preparing her to uncoil as she swings, generating rotational energy.
