Here, with her racquet well above the ball on the backswing, Mauresmo is about to slice a backhand. Again, her left hand on the racquet throat helps her get plenty of shoulder turn.

Amelie's use of an Eastern forehand grip here is fairly unusual. For most players, this grip will create very heavy slice -- but too high, soft, and floating a shot -- and a grip between the Continental and the full Eastern backhand makes much more sense.
