Here's one more two-year step in Anna Kournikova's growth. Now, at age 12, she doesn't look like she's having fun yet, but this look might just reflect her focus and determination. Notice the Eastern forehand grip with which she seems to be about to slice her backhand. A few years later, Anna would have one of the softest drop shots on the WTA Tour, perhaps because of using a grip that puts so much spin and so little hit on the ball. Anna never won a WTA singles title, but she got close often enough to reach a career-high ranking of #8, and she won 16 doubles titles, including two Australian Opens.
