Two New Talents to Watch At and From this Wimbledon
Monday June 29, 2009
Among the young players who have gained much wider notice at this Wimbledon, keep an eye on the 17-year-old American, Melanie Oudin, who upset recent world number one and sixth seed Jelena Jankovic in the third round, and the 19-year-old German, Sabine Lisicki, who upset French Open champion and fifth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round and then rising star and ninth seed Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round. Neither Oudin nor Lisicki was seeded. Oudin lost to Agnieszka Radwanska in the fourth round, but Lisicki is still a contender, and one whose serve no one wants to face. Lisicki exceeds 120 mph often enough that she may soon top Venus Williams's all-time women's fastest serve of 127 mph.
