Roger Federer Claims Fifth Consecutive US Open
Monday September 8, 2008
Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 Monday to claim his fifth consecutive US Open singles title and his thirteenth major overall, putting him one shy of Pete Sampras's record of 14. Murray had upset Rafael Nadal in the semifinal, in part by using some interesting tactics, like returning first serves from quite far back, that Roger might want to try against Nadal the next time they meet. From farther back, Roger might not have as much trouble returning the serve high to his backhand that Rafa uses almost without exception.
