The Strokes That Put Venus and Serena in the Singles and Doubles Finals
Friday July 4, 2008
Venus and Serena Williams will be opponents in Wimbledon's women's singles final and partners against Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur in the women's doubles final, all in one day, Saturday. The Williams sisters are proving, once again, their dominance when they're playing at their best. In addition to exceptional strength and speed, Venus and Serena both have superior mastery of the following strokes:
The two-handed backhand, which they hit with great depth and accuracy, is their most reliable groundstroke.
Venus has the fastest topspin-slice first serve in women's tennis, and Serena is close behind her.
Both sisters often hit an open or semi-open forehand with immense power.
Venus and Serena were among the first women to make great use of the swinging volley.
